It Won't Hurt

My life is a ball of knotted loss,
of the two I can’t see and the one I can;
three angels marooned from my world.
I look out for photo-frames now,
blossoming faces to place behind glass
that I clean like a degenerate widower.
I used to look at these wondrous faces,
willing God that I may soon be with them,
convinced that I have to let them go.
The wallpaper on my phone
is a cobweb that spells lies
and soon I will understand the pain I caused.
I used to be so happy
to show people their beauty,
but now I am much more careful.
Eyes defy sense with pitiful delusion,
sure that my distance is for good reason;
‘What must he have done to deserve this?’
A looming crest of dark pregnant cloud
silent and grotesque as it closes in,
but why on earth would I move?
I imagine my thoughts appearing before me,
scratched pins of eyes in deeply drawn bones;
you can hit me if you like.
I promise you, it won’t hurt.
