Summer Storm

Lady’s Tresses –
Queen Anne’s lace,
lay flattened in the field
as if a herd of stallions
ran wild there.
So much rain
and still it rains;
the wind lashes
the pampas grass –
its feathered plumes
ripped to shreds
as the breast
of a ravaged bird.
The wind howls
through the casement
windows that rattle
on the latches;
crows 'caw-caw'
mid-air – their wings
black sails; galleons
ride out the gale.
Everything in flower
hangs its heavy head
as still it pours...
the foxglove, peonies,
and mop-head hydrangea
shed petals all around;
beneath a Cornus Kousa
a ‘Venus Tree’ – deep
your ashes are buried;
atop them – strawberry-centred
blush-pink bracts – lie,
shattered
on the ground.

Quality read Tina. Always
Quality read Tina. Always seems distressing when this happens to the garden but I bet it looks amazing and bursting with colour in a few days, I hope your tree recovers well. Another excellent piece :)

As Dan said, I found myself wondering how soon it would recover! Have to wait and see. Especially liked verse 4, really brought out the saturation and beating of the rain. Rhiannon

Hello Tina,
And apparently we've got this weather until the end of June or so I read. Mind you if it takes bad weather to give you such inspiration we'll just have to put up with it.
Lovely poem, much enjoyed

Thank God we have the weather to talk about in this country ;-). Maybe if we keep doing this we'll have sun until Christmas. Nice observations as usual Tina. Well done.
