Remember me....
the woman with the
watercolour dreams
and scribbled thoughts,
always waiting for the
man with a van to come
again, pack me in a
cardboard box labelled
address unknown, deliver
me somewhere familiar,
unfamiliar - another room
with a red-brick view,
its all the same to me...
if I lay out my pebbles,
and bits of old seaweed,
hang a seascape on the
shower-room wall, I can
close my eyes, put a
shell to my ear and still
make-believe I'm home.

Love this. For some reason these lines-
'its all the same to me...
if I lay out my pebbles,
and bits of old seaweed,'- really moved me

This is excellent. A slow burn that builds to a white hot ending. Some reminders of universal truth here as well. Wonderful Seashore.

I could relate to this

I could relate to this coral, having moved many
times, but now settled.
We are far from the sea, but like you say in your poem, I always manage to cover the house in shells and pebbles that I've picked up on my journeys.
Wonderful poem, full of treasures. Hope you enjoy
your new home.
Jenny.

Seashore, I can't match 25 times but I'm on you're tail!! This is so sad and really resonates with me, Hanging the same old pictures, finding a place for the same old pots and pans, waking each morning thinking will this be my home?
I hope you find it...real soon.

Well done on the cherry. 48
Well done on the cherry. 48 years in the same house and you'd be surprised at the number of things that I don't remember where I put them! In some cases I occasionally find things that I don't remember owning.
Still it takes all sorts and at least I know where the tissues are kept ready for you next poem!
The phrase 'red brick view' rings a bell.

Hello dear seashore. Going
Hello dear seashore.
Going with the tide I see, I like that
"...if I lay out my pebbles,
and bits of old seaweed..."
I shall read this one again when walking the coast path Sunday, pasty and real ale at the end.
ps
"...another room with a red-brick view..."
There is an old beach hut I know of that needs doing up, suitable for an artist.

So sorry I was late getting

So sorry I was late getting to this one, Coral. I thought I'd moved loads of times until I read this;-)
Home is where the heart is, so they say, and I agree with what has already been said in that it is somewhere and everywhere.
Well done on the more than deserved cherry.
Tina;-)

I'm in the process of moving
Permalink Submitted by RachelPatricia on
I'm in the process of moving myself at the moment, Coral, so this poem really spoke to me. I was going to copy/paste the stanza which spoke to me the most, but I can't. Each one has its own voice, and together they make this poem sing. What a wonderful read - so good to be reading your stuff again. Hope you are well,
Rachel xx

It's always nice when I trawl the cherrypicks and see a new poem from one of my faves - what is so good about this and your last poem is the tightness of the word choice - everything seems where it should be, refined and they are a joy to read to boot.
