CURTAIN CALL

the queens and kings
and knavish things
have traded red for black
the ace of spades has made the crawl
to top card on the stack
a silk top hat
now battered flat
a rabbit on his side
he cannot hold his ears up tall
for he is petrified
a weathered cane
in corner, lain
dissolving into dust
the golden tip now has a pall
of pimpled common rust
the balls that danced
askew, askance
are scattered on the floor
the season's changed from spring to fall
and they shall whirl no more
a tail of scarves
no longer carves
a rainbow brightly bled
there will not be a curtain call
the magic man is dead

Really cleverly worked
Really cleverly worked moonphish. I like the way you tell us he is dead in the first verse, but without saying it direct.
the ace of spades has made the crawl
to top card on the stack.
Then it's hinted again in the next three verses. Then the final verse says it all.
Very original.

Hits all the buttons for me, moonphish. Very original, clean and screams mortality on full reverb. What stimulated it? Did I miss something?

Hi well deserved cherries!
I to must say great piece of writing!
But wonder if or who the character,is
because it is so real.the way you have explained
comes over to me,comic or comedian,or juggler,magician,
just a thought. I tried one title "The Young Eccentric
Gentleman". But he is true! I saw out in summer Brighton. He was having a coffee with friends. I asked if could take a photo I have now great!
