I lie
with this technology
sleek and shiny
just as Bradbury dreamed
in childhood stories
lived by torchlight
underneath the sheets
where first I heard
the rippling bass
the chorus girls
and horns
the velvet voice
of Presley
sing Suspicious Minds
inside my head
against the roar
of life that courses
though my ears
from infancy
unto this place
that even I don’t know
was I really there
in 69?
or was it
someone else’s time
that bound
the echoes of this sound
unto my flesh?
sometimes
like the memories
of carefree dead
this music
occupies my nights
with hauntings
calls me back
to childhood
and unfinished business
all my words
are left unspoken
all my thoughts
are broken glass
upon your smile

This is so evocative, PT, and brought back so many memories. Beautifully written. Well done on the cherries.

I was never much into Elvis
I was never much into Elvis strangely enough PT but I liked your poem- I did read Bradbury though and I was there in '69 too.
