Come the rain, son, I’ll mend your train,
come the rain, Ma, I’ll try again
to fix those shelves, and mend that hole,
find a place to store your kitchen coal …

 

’Til the rain come, I must press on
there’s jobs outside just waiting to be done
– can’t do that work in rain, it’d spoil –
come the rain, I’ll rest with different toil!

Hello Rhiannon,

A good take on the I P as usual.  Succinct and to the point if that's not tautologous.  And you have cleverly referenced change is as good as  a rest.

I had to check the meaning of 'tautology'! I think we say 'succinct and to the point' to emphasise, don't we? Anyway, I'm glad you thought it was, and told me. The idea played around in my mind when I wasn't trying to think about the IP! regards, Rhiannon

Busy old Dad. When it's fine he's outside working on the parsnip bed. Come the rain, everyone's given him their list of must-do jobs!

This poem would work well in a childrens' anthology with good illustrations.     Elsie

Really enjoyed this, Rhiannon, and has been said, a really original take on the IP. 

My other half is outside planting potatoes as I speak.  He says he'll fix the blocked sink...later, if it rains;-)  Think I'll do it myself....but, on second thoughts, perhaps not;-)

Thank you, Rhiannon.  Yes. I have family coming, my two daughters and husband and partner, my grandson, Derek's twin sister and his youngest sister and her husband so a full house which I like.
