Pen Pals

To be a pen pal
can be recreational
and, by exchanging views,
it can prove educational.

With teacher advising
to exercise prudence,
Jill befriended Jean Claude
through correspondence.

He described where he lived
and named the region.
Didn’t talk about politics,
didn’t mention religion.

At length they grew up
but remained in touch.
On what he did for a living
he didn’t say very much.

So it came as a great shock
to learn that Jean Claude
had been sent to prison
convicted of fraud.
