Song for Sam

This boy of ours
We're missing him
His picture's on the wall
He meant more than anything
More than anything in this world

He was taken from us
Life's cruel and it's a crime
It's awful hard to get on with things
It's awful hard sometimes

But all in all
We're faring well
We'll muddle through some how

Now, a bit about the boy
His name was just plain Sam
And despite the odds against him
He was quite a fine young man
 
Twenty five and handsome
With a passion for his girl
And a dream about the movies
They were everything in his world

But all in all

And still we have our moment
When laughter fills the air
But when that dust has settled
Our hearts fill with despair

And then I think about him
How he rose above the pain
He had that laugh we loved so well
A little sunshine in the rain

Extremely moving, Rich, and presumably you sing this to your guitar, grappling with emotions and to keep going. Singing it out must be some help, and the good memories. So sorry for the situation. Rhiannon

Many thanks, blighters. I'm glad it touched you in such a way. I hope this in some way helps anyone who is going through something similar. I know I'm not alone in this. I'm always touched by the tremendous amount of support shown me.

It's a heartfelt gem. I like the chorus - it pulls in an outsider's thoughts about how people cope with immeasurable loss but it's spoken from your perspective. There's a mask with grief that one must wear to make others feel comfortable. It must sometimes be a relief to take that mask off. I really hope you get chance to because it's tough holding yourself up when you just want to lay down.

the refrain for your wain is, as they say, pure poetry. Heartfelt even as the mind melts. A difficult case. Sam Spade and Craven Danger nothing can be stranger.
