Sunny Welsh Morning In June

Light memories
often trickle down
through the years,
yet now reminiscences
plummet; cascading...
a rainbow of colours filtering
every corner of my mind as
if it were yesterday...
a typical eight year old
was I back then...
drowsy from dreams
of what?
I cannot recall...
long ago
recollections of
Treharris Glamorgan,
those lazy mornings buried
in Aunty's starch cotton sheets,
tucked in so tightly no chance
of release...remembering
my pink fluffy cardie
knitted by Mum...
grazed knees from
falling yet again;
Aunty Betty's kettle
always on the boil,
there was a regular
cuppa to be had,
her front door never
locked...as neighbours
gossiped, like sheep
they would flock.
Such a deep sense
of calm lingered...
time it stood still,
as in the distance from my
open window...the lilting
chuff – chuff of yet another
steam engine as it toot –
tooted on by...
closer still...I'd hear
the baaing of large
woolly sheep...basking
in early morning sunshine,
bird song filling my senses
an orchestra of sound,
on that Sunny Welsh
Morning In June.

Captures that feeling of
Captures that feeling of warmth and family love that fix treasured memories from childhood, and the sight and sounds and sunshine that were loved. Rhiannon

I remember starched sheets
I remember starched sheets and how they seemed to cling once warmed and formed. This is a lovely piece Jenny, with a great depth of imagery and moving openness, that I too was lucky enough to experience in my childhood days. Well done my friend, a much appreciated share... Rob

Jenny this is very beautiful,
Jenny this is very beautiful, and I'm so sorry I missed it until now, but it has brightened up my rather dreary, humdrum day with its warmth. Love it when you say, 'an orchestra of sound'. It conveys so aptly the mood of the poem, with all its wonderful memories. So pleased you decided to share with them with us, Jenny, they are as special as this poem is

Bliss
Most captivating imagery, what a wonderful childhood you must have had, thank you for taking me there, a precious treat for heart, eye and ear. Wales sounds wonderfull, I think some of my ancestors come from there, probably never get to see though, makes your poem all the more worthwhile loved it Ray

Hello Jenny,
Hello Jenny,
I don't think Ii shall ever catch up on Dwellers because you are so prolific. So switching to your poems as I've read a few in the past and liked them. This was a lovely evocation of childhood. Can't say much more as Window cleaner coming early. Be back soon.
Moya.
