A Sweet Tooth

My dentist took a look at my wobbly tooth,
exhaled deeply and exclaimed, “Forsooth!
It has to come out, of that there’s no doubt,
but we’ll replace it as you can’t do without.”
I had truly thought that it was a real treat
to have been offered a hard boiled sweet;
in fact I believed that one wasn’t enough
but I did not realise that it would be tough.
I smacked my lips as the taste was delicious
yet its toughness didn’t make me suspicious.
The temptation at the time was hard to resist,
now I am at the mercy of a ruthless dentist.
