A country torn
and worn
by civil war,
bomb and blast
blood lust and dust
the oppressed oppress,
lash out,
more casualties and stress,
schisms, in-fighting
biting, hating
shooting, gun-drunk
looting, hurting, sunk
in trouble, rubble –
the old, the young, the younger
athirst, with fear and hunger;
but here and there, unseen
shine gems of love and care,
and unexpected helps from prayer,
those labouring with miniscule resources,
in tiredness and sweat
who will not let
the anger, danger, dirt
and opposition
deter from kind compassion
and will not ration
their efforts and their help.
Who will truly lead
to serve the people
not in greed, but selflessly
to draw ahead
away from such distress
and mess?

and yet, the growth of hate,
and yet, the growth of hate, with little regret and the poor see nothing but increased fear. Glad that we live here.

An excellent and topical
An excellent and topical interpretation of the I.P., Rhiannon. You truly hit the nail on the head.
Well done on the well deserved cherries.

We all need reminding
We all need reminding Rhiannon, it goes on and on and becomes sort of white noise in the world news. Brilliant and hard-hitting.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
I like the way you use your words in this poem - a steady thump of pain and problems. Thank God for those who are available and willing to selflessly help those in need.
