A refugee

Your life laid bare
The sudden intimacy of violence
Blood in the air
Fully exposed.
They place their faith
Your lips, your tits, your cunt
You squat and curl in a life frieze
Uncoil in the truth of a beggar’s lament:
Please. Please. Please
They covet the holding and the rationing
of a body’s clay torn and keening
a closed fist inside
you are throwaway
a ritual they always return
high fives, job well done.

Easier to think of them as a collective mist of trouble makers, no sympathy spent. Poignant poem indeed.
I'm looking forward to reading Lily Poole next week when I'll be in fact near Poole (not sure why I've waited to join geographical location with title)
