they didn't have much money
and they didn't have much time
they never took vacations
only up the ladder, climbed
.
but they shared a sense of humor
foreign postcards, they would send
back and forth to one another
with inscriptions, that they'd penned
.
she'd sent him one from egypt
at a famous tourist stop
arrow pointing at the pyramids
"hey look, it's me on top"
.
he'd sent her one from china
at their vast and mighty wall
he'd written underneath it
"they have walmarts here, y'all"
"they have walmarts here, y'all"
.
she'd sent him one from paris
at a tower made of steel
"why ain't this damn thing leaning
oh, wrong tower, what's the deal ?"
.
he'd sent her one from athens
the acropolis at dawn
"a crop of bliss", he'd scribbled
marijuana leaf, he'd drawn
.
she lost her life by accident
a bus had struck her dead
three weeks went by, a postcard came
and this is what it said
.
she'd sent him one from heaven
at a gate of pearly white
she said "i wish that you were here
to ease my lonely nights"

quite a journey and if it
quite a journey and if it ends at the pearly gates, then I guess that's fate.
