Blue Sky Tree High

She walks her dog, head in the clouds
And legs as long as Sequoia trunks
She’s tall and as high as a kite
Hound on a string of unfathomable length
It trots along, blushing like a blue dog
She chirrups it’s name, ‘Sky!’ she says,
‘Come along, I think cloud nine is in sight,’
I’ve been here before, thinks Sky,
Dragging his heels as the search
For happiness goes on, always the same
Dogs know but they’re never knowing
Not like the sniffy people down below
She thinks too much, that’s her mistake, thinks
Blue dogs are in vogue, though technically grey
As a standard sky, a standard mood on a standard day
Overthinking gives you nothing but a headache
‘Don’t look down,’ says Sky, ‘Look up at the trees,’
How they bend and bow anyway the wind blows
Swaying the highs, dancing through the lows
She so high now she’s lost sight of the ground
Tripping on details she throws out her arms
And cloud nine bursts like so many dreams
Disappeared in a refreshing shower of rain
To water the trees else they wither away
Leaving only scorched earth to remain
Broken dreams make time for us to survive
Her blue Sky is there to break her fall
They will dream and love and walk again
On lush grass under tall, verdant trees
The stuff of waking dreams

This is really intriguing,
This is really intriguing, Jane. You seem to have enjoyed the feeling of the escape and companionship of walking off frustrations with a dog of sensible conversation!
I like the line 'though technically grey As a standard sky, a standard mood on a standard day'
An interesting response to Poetry Monthly. Rhiannon

I love the idea of waking
I love the idea of waking dreams. This poem has a real dreamlike quality. Nothing has solidity. Nicely written, Jane. Hope you had fun writing it. Writing is dreaming with your eyes open.

Found this moving. I miss my dog very much and found the last lines comforting. Dogs do stop you over thinking, they make you literally grounded as you have to be out walking them for them to be happy, and so you learn to appreciate being in the woods etc
