Waiting For Santa

When I was a child,
on Christmas night,
I’d wait for Santa
with sherry, mince pies
and a raw carrot
for Rudolph the deer.
Although my parents
switched off the light
I peered in the dark
and fervently hoped
to see him appear.
I did not see him
but I heard him alright.
I wondered if
the bringer of gifts
was partial to beer
as I caught a whiff
of ale on his breath
when he said Ho Ho Ho.
But maybe I was wrong:
it might have been B.O.
Of one thing I was sure:
I’d be very upset
If he had not delivered
my coveted train set.

Christmas is only magical
Christmas is only magical whilst still 'believing' - I still believe and I am
Roll on Santa.
