Where Does The Good Go

Where does the good go? Where have our children gone? The small window of time between birth and the day she smears on her first line of makeup and he asks to download an app is closing. And it closes so quickly. Too quickly. Our 12 year olds are dating and at 14 years they've lost their virginity. Freshman praise the vape life and college students have no idea what they're doing in their lives, their classes, their Friday nights.
Where does the good go? Where is the good when high school students are taking about their own detrimental, degrading, derogatory, self deprecating thoughts. Where is it when a child can't say 'i struggled with depression and self harm’ without a resounding chorus of 'me too’. Where is it? I pray to you, where could it be. Where did the damn good go? Why can't we ever find it when we need it most.
Maybe in the future we will have confirmation the the good was in hiding. Maybe we will have elders with fading vibrant tattoos and pastel hair and scarred bodies from fun Friday nights. Maybe we will be wiser. The ignorance and stupidity of bullying will be realized as a mindless pastime. Maybe things will get better.
Or maybe they won't. Maybe the light in the tunnel won't get brighter. Maybe the tunnel will simply concave. We will slowly breath in air and dust until we asphyxiate on our on own hate and emotion. Maybe we will be those who are gone.
Maybe we don't murder each other intentionally. Maybe we don't kill our own school students. Maybe we don't begin other wars.
Maybe we don't destroy the world.
Maybe the good returns.
But where has it gone for now. Where does the good go?

the loss of encuraging an awe
the loss of encuraging an awe of God and his standards and guidance for happy/good living. Each personlly sorting that out can help to help others, and it can be salt in society, even bringing a turnabout. Rhiannon

A powerful and effective
A powerful and effective piece. There must be some values missing in society. In some ways we don't know where we are going or what we are aiming for. I personally think the god of economics is definitely the wrong way in the long run, for society as a whole. There has to be something better.

Incisive and powerful
I still teach 11 to 16 year olds and I see so much of the truth you talk of in their lives. I never thought I'd see the day when councillors were needed in schools, but I have and the children cry out for them. Your piece reminds me again of my duty of care to each and every one.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said.
