They'd debated
at length
and she knew
he was wrong
but did not worry.
Ended the argument
sighing and saying “Yes dear”.
Was certain that later
he would appear
with a bunch of roses
and say “Sorry”.

Firstly I'd like to say
Firstly I'd like to say congratulations on 53 years of married life Luigi. Yes give and take is what makes for a great relationship. Your poem said it all and I hope you look forward to many more years together.

Neatly put, Luigi. How often
Neatly put, Luigi. How often arguing incites having to disagree and support what one's said, whereas left to think about it in silence, either the ridiculousness of the situation or the futility of trying to sort it out, and the silliness of quarrelling … leads to apology or at least agreement to leave the matter awhile!
