Pain

If I could take your pain, I would
shove it deep inside my aching gut

It would settle in right next to mine,
growing larger with each new hurt
until one day I could no longer tell
what started as yours and became mine.

My pain is absorbent.

You were the first person a) that ever called my work excellent and b) made me consider how exactly how feminist/vs not my writing is.

And I am a woman. And I'm really glad that the last line stuck with you because it's been in my head since I wrote it.
