On Cromer Pier

It was many years ago
(before Dan and Ollie)
that Sarah went to Cromer
without taking a brolly.
 
She didn't need to do so
as the sun was shining
and the weatherman said
that it wouldn't be raining.
 
She bought fish and chips
from a chippie quite near,
victual that she intended
to consume on the pier.
 
The place was crowded
and to find an empty seat
on which to sit and relax
was no mean feat.
 
The aroma was tempting
yet no food touched her lips
as a sudden downpour
fell on her fish and chips.
 
A determined young lady
said: “I will persevere
and I will have my lunch
right here, have no fear.
 
She unpacked the box
of the food she'd bought
and, ignoring the rain,
tucked away the lot.

I am going to hazard a guess that this might be written for the Dan and Ollie you mention? If so, you need some Quentin Blake or Spike Milligan illustrations to make it perfect

Hi Claudine.
It was actually written for their mother. It is based on a true story which happened to my niece (the girl in the photo in her younger days). We recently met and she mentioned a poem I wrote some time ago about her brother Ben which she liked. This gave me the idea to do the same for her.
Your suggestion about a Quentin Blake or Spike MIlligan illustration is a good one but it might be difficult to find one copyright free.

Maybe Dan and Ollie could do the illustrations? If she has not read it yet, that could make it eaven more special?

Hello Di.
I don't know if they have artistic inclinations. I believe their talents veer towards sport as both boys play rugby and Dan, in addition, has a black belt in one of the martial arts.
Sarah has already read the poem and expressed her appreciation.
