Dear Darkness,

I saw you leave this morning
tangled in the frayed fibres of my curtains
your long tail the last to go
another sleepless night
Can't say I was sorry to see you leave
exposing my bitter pills like you did
the dregs of scotch
that old tin can
I was in search of you at the window
as if you were a lover, lost to another
gone now
to where the light shone brighter
You arrived uninvited
slinked in through the side door
left large footprints on my stairs
lay like stone in my unmade bed
Once, during midsummer, I followed you inside
pulled black-out blinds down for you
tried to please you, to be near to you
pleaded with dawn to hold on until I understood you
Now you just blind me in death throes of winter
cling to walls the bulk of day
and the lights I turn on make it harder to know
make it harder to hear what you say.

I particularly like the idea
I particularly like the idea of being tired of day and inviting darkness in.
I know of this complex relationship with darkness.

"weeping birdsong" is gorgeous. I like the idea of night having a long tail and jumping out of the window, disappearing like a cat

Lots here to enjoy. I like the switch from "dregs of scotch, that old can" to "you came while I was out". Great stuff.
