Deimos

Do not be too still, pause, but
move in the eeriness of change
as before long we will be less restless
together again.
We might meet by that cherry tree
that orbits the boundaries of the park,
to mourn the loss of blossom
we did not witness the pinked snowdrift of
beside each other.
For now we will revolve in conjunction,
as planet and moon, Mars and Deimos,
will resolve to remain in our distant trajectories
whilst all we share is dread,
and we will wait, postpone, cancel
before one hand might hold another,
to transmit nothing other
than love. Then I will sit with you
by the pond, we will observe the skaters,
who in their defiance of physics, stroll the water,
hair and claw to resist sinking,
we will watch how they do not drown.

This poem is for my best friend Gina who I may not see for a long time as she is very poorly. She is Mars and I am Deimos clearly...

Hi Rachel,
Hi Rachel,
you know when I was young I had a best friend named Gina, we were almost like twins and could read each others minds. I really do hope your friend gets better soon.
I like how in this poem you keep the faith of optimism. To be honest I think mother earth could do with a rest from the usual realities, for instance it's great not to have hundreds of planes traveling across the sky emiting trails, and not so many cars on the roads sending out fumes.
The lines that captured my attention were:-
We might meet by that cherry tree
that orbits the boundaries of the park,
to mourn the loss of blossom
we did not witness the pinked snowdrift of
beside each other.
But there is always next spring and a time for sharing in the love of our friendships, we just need to be patient and wait, as you say in your inspiring poem.
Jenny.

I'm feeling a lot better
I'm feeling a lot better today Rachel, thank you for asking. French onion soup sounds so tasty, it's making my mouth water just thinking about it.
I think I phrased that remark about my young friend Gina reading my mind wrong. What I actually meant was, that quite often she'd finish off my sentances, and would come out with an idea that I was thinking of too. We only had to look at each other and would get what the other was thinking, it would have us laughing at situations and nobody else would no what we were laughing about.
I think thoughts that may seem like a strange brew of nonsense are great. Me and my friend used to talk about some very strange things, though I suppose we're all different, but I like strange anyway.
Enjoy your soup. Take care.
Jenny. x
