Away with the Fairies

I’ve never been away
Away with the fairies
I’m ever so envious
Of those who have
Lucidity being overrated
And often quite tiring
They talk about it so flippantly
But you don’t get details
Nobody talks about Fairyland
There is no form of transport
You just have to let go
Loosen your grip on whatever
It is you think your gripping
Fall and they’ll catch you
Trust them to take you
With their tiny wings
To a place not too far
It’s just outside of being
Because they must put you back quickly
‘You were away with the fairies,’
People will say as I blink on my return
A string of coloured lights
Flashing in my field of vision
Fading as the tiresome grippy world
Bleeds back into full focus
I will wear a ‘faraway look’
Just for a short time
I’ll smile to myself knowingly
Having experienced one
Legendary trip, ‘away with the fairies’.

reminded me of being jealous
reminded me of being jealous of someone when i first started school and the teacher said she was away with the fairies. i was always checking to see if she sparkled, but she was always sad. it is a good way of finding people like me, if they are away with the fairies. your poem is very wistful and defiant at the same time
