As dawn breaks through

shifting sunlight; clouds

slowly drift above pathway

to yawning woods, where

gentle nature calms the

soul illuminating beauty,

 

between imposing columns

of trees, trail leads to a

dreamy lake where ripples

lace in seclusion...but for

nature's own.

 

Then as morning meanders

into afternoon welcome new

arrival displayed on vibrant

glossy leaves,

 

ephemeral mayfly once

hidden at water's edge

departs, wings quivering,

looming then descending

to attract a mate,

 

I wonder if you've inhaled

in the golden dawn! For

your pallet's so short lived,

when destiny is fixed only

to bear life.

Another lovely, dreamy reverie and stroll through nature on a beautiful, Bank Holiday Monday.

Hi Paul,

It was while out for a walk at our local Mouldon Hill  Country Park last week and sitting by the lake, that I decided to write this poem.

I was just thinking how the Mayfly has such a short life, and wondering just how much of its world the insect takes in, which got me inspired to write this poem.

I'd love to be out in the dawn like that! And I don't think I'd recognise a mayfly!

Hi Rhiannon,

 at this time of year as dawn breaks it's so quiet, but for the bird song, but then a bit later it's as if the insect world comes alive. I never actually went out walking at dawn, but like you it's nice to imagine. wink

I did enjoy our walk in our local park, and it was such a pleasure to sit beside the lake and watch the swans and ducks going about their business, and so inspiring.

This is so magical and May is the most wonderful month for seeing nature at it's busiest. I have seen a few mayflies this week, they're quite easy to spot if you've seen a picture. 

I particularly love the second verse, 'imposing columns of trees, trail leads to a dreamy lake'.

I agree, it's as if nature has suddenly woken from a long sleep and is eager to mate, while making the most of being busy going about their life.

I'm glad you enjoyed the imposing columns of trees, because I always feel they are so majestic. The dreamy lake was so peaceful too.

this is so peaceful! I didn't know anything about them, except they don't live very long, so looked them up - they really don't! As you say in your beautiful line, if you see one it might not have "inhaled in the golden dawn". I loved the contrast between the timeless lake and the so brief lives that depend on it

I'm so glad you were able to look up some information on the Mayfly. It's so sad just how short their lives are. We as humans having choices are so incredibly lucky don't you think?
