Farewell Sunlight's Delight

Roar of an 0cean
beyond the bank
not far away – beach
full of baubles
memory stones & clam shells
in abundance-
evening sun rays reflect
an incoming tide.
I must go down to
the beach where foot-falls
left prints upon a sandy
shore on Northumberland Strait
a tributary of Atlantic might
where swimmers splash
heartily & loiter-
seaweed carpets of wet sand
like an intruder
lay across the best
parts of land upon
which to stand-
further down the beach
a boy rides a horse
across hallowed sand.

Beautiful Richard. We live
Beautiful Richard. We live near the beach and every word of this rang true for me. Thank you for the read.
Favourite phrase: Seaweed carpets of wet sand.

a boy rides a horse
across hallowed sand."
Wonderfully evocative, Richard. You live amongst such beauty. A lucky man, you are. Paul

This was so reminiscent of my
This was so reminiscent of my younger days, when spending summer holidays in
England's Cornwall, and going to the beach each day...Oh! For that fresh salty sea air, it was heaven.
Lovely poem Richard.

Only the hardiest of folk
Only the hardiest of folk would swim in the sea off Northumberland, but that's how Northumbrians are.
The beaches of Northumberland are maginificent. The best beaches are the beaches that are sufficiently wild and open for you to to be able to say
further down the beach
a boy rides a horse
across hallowed sand
