was not necessary

No
cause or even is

Just
something you did

Made
mistakes

Learned
to sneak away

And
play

Games
with different rules

Grateful
for string lines

Allowing
some words to grow

Cultivating
my curiosity

A
child’s waywordness

A
gentle belief in storks

Crayons
and sticky craft

Seeds
and no weeds

Just
small and tall flowers

Listened
to no adult voice

Dug
stonking deep holes

Fired
early drafts

But
never blamed my craft

I
wish you all kinds of well

On
our synonymous path

Let’s
compost composition

Grow
compassion

Learn
how to spell

In
the same way a dog smells

Rekindle
our love of letters

And
all things daft

All
will be well in all kinds of ways.

A creative composition with underlying meaning. I imagine "waywordness" is intentionally spelt like that here? Enjoyed, CM

LOVED THIS :0) You've gone straight into the heart of discovering about writing in primary school, drawing words out of your mind to make something no one else could know about otherwise - exciting or comforting or daft to make them laugh. All equally wonderful. The idea of a spelling being like a smelling out, I had never thought of, the image of snuffing across a forgetful field after the correct way to spell a word, and suddenly it rises, up out of tall grass and flies into your memory settling comfortably :0)

yeh, 'waywordness' isn't an unintenitional gaff marinda. I've a had a few. It's not really a poem, just a collection of words. thanks for that insert. I think that message comes from a mystic of he middle ages. cloistered, of course. I'm glad you liked that bit DI. Sometimes we root around and just don't smell the roses. One of our primary senses and not too often linked to language. Us poor dogs.

I enjoyed this arrangement of words. It's very different and got me thinking about how writing becomes so natural but only after years of learning to spell, punctuate and the rest. To be both creative and articulate, you have to dig stonking deep holes and only when conditions allow.

Fwaw... a style I'm not used to seeing from you Celticman!

This reminds me of all the things that went through my head when I'd been at school a couple of years. Learning's necessary in life but we can learn so much in our own way.
