Why is there still a church?

How come there’s still believers found
who love that carpenter?
Though long time’s past they still abound –
He said He’d call them out
to be disciples and reborn –
He'd save them by His death.
They love to meet, not keep alone –
His ‘body’ on the earth.
His church is this – His people who
are founded on the Rock,
on Jesus Christ and what he did:
He said no earthly shock –
not death, or Satan could destroy
His church on earth would thrive
despite men’s hatred, still in joy
His church would grow and live.
And many puzzle as they see
His church has never died
despite much malice constantly
and rulers that despised
and killed, commanded that they cease
to meet and worship Him:
the world-wide church did not decrease
and shines out, beckoning.
Tune: CMD
“I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. Matthew 16:18

persecution
Yes Rhiannon, the church throughout history is strongest in times of persecution.
