Advice to future generations

There are three things
you have to be aware
of and all of them
are in need of repair.

1) Public service broadcasting

“Around the world
and across the UK”.
This is a mantra
we hear all-day

from newscasters
with a lot to say
who are rewarded
with extravagant pay

while senior citizens
pay the licence fee
to watch repeats
on their TV.

As I never suggested
he may have lied 
why does the presenter
say: “It's been verified”?

2) Rail travel

People want to travel
and save the world;
I take all of them 
at their word.

Instead of the car
they'll take the train.
Unfortunately, though,
their wish is in vain.

There are notices
at various stations
of rail disruptions
and cancellations.

Some do believe
that the degradation
is the result
of privatisation

while others argue
that it is strikes
that forces them
to use bikes.

3) Climate change

Finally, I come
to climate change;
it's the global response
I find rather strange.

Everyone is for it,
they stay in touch 
but their resolutions
don't amount to much.

All the parties claim
to work for the same goal
yet some are refusing
to stop burning coal.

The slow speed of action
revealed at COP 28
suggests that recovery
could be too late.
