Deep Blue Eastern Light

Sunlight rising, filtering dreams through the griddled mesh of dawn.
Unspoiled country, unspoiled land, unspoiled dreams of love.
Misty Budapest morning, misty-eyed Budapest girl.
Proud, untouchable woman, tangible only in dreams.
Deep blue Budapest lady
Deep blue eastern light
Deep blue dream of gothic lore
In a deep blue fading night
Smoked ice, soft grey, plumed horse’s breath
Cart wheel creak rutted dewy tracks of yester-olde
Sibilant whispered words of haste, majestic equine beast
Proud untouchable lady, tangible only in dreams
Deep blue woman of culture
Deep blue eastern light
Deep blue dream of alabaster skin
On a deep blue satin night
Thrice my love I’ve seen you ride
Thrice now in the dawn
Thrice now I have yearned for thee
In the pale blue winter’s morn
Three times now you stole my breath
I watched as it rose in your wake
Then dissipate in the day’s iced air
As you drove your horse at daybreak
Such a world I’ve scarcely known, this country out of time
Bulbous-turret mosaic church, switching trees laid bare
A land carved out of history’s slab, folklore scribed in slate
Proud untouchable lady, tangible only in dreams
Deep blue princess of morning
Deep blue star of the dawn
Deep blue jewel of Budapest
Deep blue love forlorn
I’d heard the tale of Eastern Light
Tis said she turns men’s minds
The morning spirit of Budapest
The deep blue Eastern Light
