Falling

She likes to be by herself
She hates to be alone
She longs to run away
and she just wants to go home
She wants to give up
and she wants to carry on
she lives in the past
but knows she has to move on
She wants to live
but she doesn’t know how
she's
wasting
losing
her time
and her mind says
it’s too late now
She couldn’t tell you what she feels
but she feels it every day
sometimes she has the words
but then they
rot
and
fall
away
She wants all that is not hers
she wants nothing at all
because she climbed so high to reach it
only to
slip
and
then
fall
She'll smile on the outside
but inside she'll scream
They hung her so high
and now she's
tearing
at
the seams
She used to feel it all
but now she only feels numb
she saw her life come together
then watched it
all
come
undone
she used to be in control
now she's losing her mind
she was so far ahead
and now she's fallen
behind.
She feels herself falling
backwards
out of time and out of space
she wants to be her old self again
but she can't find her place
She'll keep falling backwards
and she knows she'll never land
because she makes the same mistakes
and she'll reach for no one's hand
She was always falling
backwards
but then she hit the ground
because he said that he'd catch her
but she fell and he wasn't around.
She's a foolish, fragile thing now
she's a shattered, broken heart
and now she's

I find the layout of this
I find the layout of this piece really effective in replicating the characters contrary thoughts especially until the line- 'she wants to live but doesnt know how'.
Really liked how the words 'fall' after this as the character's thoughts seem to desend.
Claire Smailes is one of my favorite authors and this layout reminds me a bit of In search of Adam.
