At the beach

A child throws a stone

Into blue-green sea

Whose waves crumble quickly

At his feet, foam for a moment.

A young father watches over his

Vast brood, not knowing

Where to look next, focuses

On a yellow-arm-banded one.

A woman sits alone with

Her back to the empty sea

Building a castle in the sand

As her little one comes running.

Boys buzz about slowly on

Jet skis, surviving the current

As it slaps their vessel, and

Threatens to dethrone them.

As fully-covered women paddle

In the shallows, a young man in

Speedos puffs out his chest, then

Enters cold water, and the sun sits

High in heaven, watching over all.
