A Bumpy Ride

She had seen Jack parking the vehicle on the driveway with its boot open and going into the house. It could only mean one thing: they were going away on holiday.
She was examining the boot for any sign of luggage when the lid suddenly closed and she was trapped inside. She should have heeded her mother’s warning that curiosity killed the cat.
The car left at speed with screeching tyres. Her cries for help went unheard, drowned by the noise of the car engine revving. What was happening? The thought that she was being kidnapped crossed her mind. No need to panic, though.
The situation needed to be assessed calmly and rationally. She closed her eyes and felt relaxed.
Doors opened and banged shut; shots followed. The sound of sirens could be heard in the distance. The police were obviously on the chase. Rescue was at hand.
After a bumpy ride, the car came to a halt and the boot was opened. Jack picked her up and she gave a little mewl. It’d been a dream, the car had never moved.
“Oh, Kitty, you silly puss. That’s where you’ve been hiding”, he said, “we’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
