Killing Time

I killed time today.

It doubled over twice, clockwork heart thudding as it fell from its face

As it hit the ground, I thought I heard it squelch. 

But tomorrow I killed It.

A wave of euphoria as I stabbed and stabbed

And they had no excuse but to applaud me. 

Yesterday I helped my friend

Who would’ve killed to be on stage with me 

And I fulfilled his wish when he said “break a leg.”

Yet you look at me strange when I say I killed my love

Who lies in front of me, broken heart in his hands

Nothing but mechanical.
