tide edging we merge
osmotic embrace
swallow the illusion of limbs
and waves and hearts swathed
like seaweed.
then slicing through the curve
of the moment
our thoughts break
and lunge beachward.
unobtrusive still
we inhabit the shingle
i see and simplify you
shoulders smooth flinted
streaked with salt
hair like stretched black tentacles.
stranded a crystal bead pulsating
bursts laughing
traces a thigh-groove
inky-etched with cold.
loosing a sigh
the mass swells suspended
then sinks seeping
with slow significance.
we turn heavy
with a half-remembered myth.
waking from dark sleep
we unclench
our dull pearl trickles noiselessly
to join the rest.
and we stumble wet-faced
through a moonless dusk.
