How to get published

Writers want to be famous
To be published they all try
I once worked out the ‘famous’ bit
But to do that you must die

Starved in a lonely garret
Like the old timers used to be
But I enjoy my writing
That path is not for me

So now I go to writing class
Many heads are better than one
And I have learned one answer
To get my publishing done

First you must find an agent
Write six thousand poems or more
He’ll read them through and send them
To a publisher, who’ll then take only four

If I’d started writing poems at birth
By now six thousand would be read
My collection might be published
But I’d be very nearly dead

So starve or die in either case
When all is said and done
I’ll give up fame and fortune
And keep writing just for fun
