I want a bowl full of cherries

Cherries are the choicest fruit
Enabling editors to salute
The work of all those abc talers
Who in their eyes have made the grade

A pity that this accolade
Is only printed on a page
How much nicer it would be
Upon receiving your first cherry

To hear a flat flop on the mat
Then rush down stairs in joyous hope
Finding a cherry brooch inside the envelope
Maybe cherry earrings too

They wouldn’t suit me but they might suit you!
A nice symbol of your writing skills
To hang upon your coat or ears
They might be plastic or they might be gold

Or even rubies I’ve been told
But whatever they’re made of is not the point
It means your writing has been selected
The editors have made their choice

And authors cry out with thankful voice
