Come Fly with Me

I have noticed
an eastern airflow
and I know
I won't have to ask
if a bird or a plane
will rise over roofs
covered in snow.
 
It will be, I expect
a supersonic jet.
Every morning I see
crafts that have left
Manchester airport
from terminal three.
It's a spectator's sport.
 
The planes depart
in an orderly queue
three minutes apart
and will soon be
out of view.
All this for me
is nothing new.
 
I know the drill
which is repetitive
but I still get a thrill.
Only the coffee pot
bubbling on the hub
will lure me away
from such a display.

It sounds irritating, living there. Roll on the Green Revolution where we are travel by horse and cart and bicycle like me, who has never even learnt to drive.

I never learnt to drive either, Drew, but I wouldn't know how to ride a horse and many moons have passed since I was on a bike. I can appreciate the concern regarding the ecology but until things change for the better I am afraid we have to grin and bear it. The spectacle that I have described is only visual and is not accompanied by irritating noise as i live at a fair distance from that airport. Good to hear other people's views though. Thanks for your feedback.
