New Horizons

All the headlines are about Pluto.
That doesn’t please Mickey Mouse:
it is absurd that they praise his dog!
He rages and storms out of the house.
It takes his friends to put him right,
Donald Duck, Goofy, Oswald, Minnie,
who tell him that he has got it wrong,
that he shouldn’t sulk and be a ninny.
The Pluto in question is a dwarf planet
that’s being explored by a spacecraft
that has travelled nigh on ten years
and the product of NASA’s hard graft.
All the scientists, to mention clichés ,
‘are cock-a-hoop’ and ‘over the moon’.
The information New Horizons sends
for our boffins will not be too soon.
In the near future we shall know more,
it’s the consensus and strong belief.
But the team are guarded on the details
till they see photos of the planet’s relief.
And now that things have been explained
to a small but ignorant and blushing rodent
calm is restored and for all the characters
there is laughter and great merriment
