Blue light flashes
Woo-woo! Woo-woo! Woo-woo!
fire engine trundles by,
red with yellow splashes,
soon their hoses drenching
flames and fire quenching.

Blue lights once more flashing by
Woo-woo! Woo-woo! Woo-woo!
An ambulance is dashing by:
yellow van with stripes
of green and yellow zooming past,
off to hospital safely, fast

Again see blue lights flash,
Woo-woo! Woo-woo! Woo-woo!
but why
are they also whizzing by?
white with stripes of yellow and blue –
let the police car quickly through
to the danger, crime or crash
to make things safe for me and you.

Thanks! Bit of fun getting out, trying to keep clear and crisp. I gather some children at a primary school when the police were there were asking them whether the sound was 'nee-naw' or 'woo-woo' I think, and the police apologised to neighbours for sounding the sirens rather often as the debate continued, and in the end the children voted and I think 'woo-woo' won by a slight amount! Rhiannon

Perfect for young children, just the right length and some repetition. Can you draw, Rhiannon? I honestly think you could publish this with illustrations.

Thanks, Jane. That means a lot. I can't draw, but love messing around with clipart that you can take apart and change! So, if these were published I think an artist would have to be involved! Rhiannon

This is lovely Rhiannon, and i agree with Jane. Maybe you could find a child to do the illustrations? It would be a lovely project for someone and would suit the age range

Lovely rhythm Rhiannon.  I always say a silent prayer when the blue flashing light goes by. They are never going to a celebration.

Thanks. Yes, I remember someone who worked in one of the emergency services reminding us we should do so, for those in trouble, but also for those going to try to help and possibly having to deal with situations hard to help and very upsetting. Rhiannon
