Romantic Dramatics

Good-looking to a ‘T’
popular, and chic,
immaculate, cocksure,
well-dressed and sleek,
dangling followers by a string,
always in control,
confident of all her power,
certain of her goal.
They found her glittering and coy,
she knew just how to make a boy
– or man – feel handsome, wanted,
but left them restless, bruised and haunted;
though when discarded, set aside
they sensed relief, released to be
from servitude set free.
And she, as yet was unaware
that she had no-one who would care,
no-one in whom she could confide,
no-one to listen, take her side
– or, warn her of the grief ahead
for one who plays with love, instead
of interest real, integrity
has careless insincerity –
mischievous flirting with emotion
can trigger anger, isolation.
