Winter

I believe in winter time.
hot chocolate served on the days so chilly
that snow descends in light flakes from the sky.
I believe in the warmth of the fireplace.
the red-hot glow from the hearth
as the sweet aroma of chocolate and marshmallows wafts my way.
I believe in the sensational scent of pine.
it radiates from the freshly-cut, emerald tree
as it catches visitor’s eyes from its central position in the room.
I believe in Christmas.
the vibrant yellow star relentlessly glowing
and the tower of ribbons and gift wrapping left on the wood-paneled floor the following day.
I believe in the lengthy nights.
the radiance of the stars
scattered across the jet-black sky.
I believe in the wintry weather.
using the warmth of a wool scarf
to shield my frozen neck from the bitter chill.
I believe in the holiday lights.
strolling through the vast city,
on the lookout for the most eye-catching décor.
I believe in the charity.
strangers donating past presents for the purpose
of making a child smile.
I believe in family.
gathering with those I hold dear
to celebrate the season long remembered.
I believe in memories.
those unforgettable moments
that leave a footprint on my heart, cherished forever.
