Things You Keep

Gran used to tell me:
significance gave value
to a biscuit tin full of
old family photos,
lost memories
some now hazy,
as time moves on
ragged at the edges,
yet if I look closely,
there's contented
smiles beaming
back at me.
Gran and granddad's
fun times unfolding
like those old kiss
me quick postcards,
she lived the high life
did gran –
kept granddad
on his toes but he didn't mind,
being an important man
was what kept him going.
Now I can't help holding on
to those moments that look back at me.
