Religion and Covid

Of course sects' activities are rampant worldwide as a result of the pandemic. We have our share. It sounds as if there is a universal resurgence of sect beliefs manifesting as hysteria and delusions up to psychosis it is understandable but honestly with respect things have been a lot worst at times in the past it can only make things worse carrying on like that.

There is preaching of impending great calamity and wrath and coming total destruction and the soon expected second coming. Involving weird and wonderful apocalypse teachings and diverse world end scenarios often of a rapture and the last battle Armageddon.
This is deceiving and is evil. Very typical are extremely misleading interpretations of the book of Revelations, and the soon awaited second coming. I can only speak for myself, but it is not so I do not believe it for one moment.

On the other hand big church is big business the members are exploited to the hilt financially it is very lucrative. People are very gullible you just tell them exactly what they believe and what they want to believe. The business plan is in effect “soul insurance” the plan is foolproof there are no comebacks.
The idea is similar to the medieval church ignorance of people buying pardon from sins and very specific. Selling and buying letters of forgiveness and absolved of sin by the church. Only elite clergy could read the Bible. In general people were totally misinformed and ignorant. That all changed with the printing press and the Renaissance.
It is not the end. These all are half-truths deception and deliberate exploitation preying on well-meaning goodhearted law abiding people. I myself have also had to do with such sects and “churches”.

On the other hand there are very loud forceful demonstrated very physical violent methods of exorcisms and deliverance of demons working up to frenzy. I find it very sad that people can be so ashamed so to be “cured” specifically from homosexuality and mental illness and how desperate they must be for acceptance.
Pressure from society is so bad that they even voluntary resort to this very abusive treatment while it is medically believed it is quite normal anyway you cannot “heal” somebody by going on like that. It is insanity. They are just different there is nothing wrong. Most that I've known were Christians and very proudly so. These people are just different we all are.

The world will not end. Such teaching and beliefs are deceit and exploitation and in itself only makes matters worse. In history there has been many worse times. And much worse too.
Well established traditional respected churches definitely do have a very important place in sober and rational teaching but perhaps a bit more conservative.
Other international mainstream religions must also play a part in tolerant rational and responsible conduct. We need now to put our differences aside. What we need is brotherhood balanced reasoned open minded guidance and compassion from our religious leaders.

Well said, Tom. I haven't had first hand experience of sects and the like but I imagine they can be quite a handful.

Sadly some people want a following and to be influential without meekly teaching and studying God's Word, and it turns people away from the gospel words he has for all. Also wanting excitement and to feel they wield God's power at their will, rather than quiet prayer. Jesus' miracles were quiet, and he didn't want them advertised and people only coming to him for physical healing at present.
He has said he'll come again, and we must be ready for this world will end and the new come, but he said no-one can know when that will happen, and it will probably be when not particularly expected.
The troubles of the pandemic should be drawing people to think of the help he can give, 'an ever-present help in trouble' (Psalm 46:1)
