The Boy Who Had Everything

There once was a boy who had everything;
he had everything that money could buy
like toy trains and jet planes with painted wings
and dolls that danced and laughed and sang and cried.
He had more toys than most boys could dream about
a whole platoon of wooden troops at his command;
an ice-cream truck from which real ice-cream came out;
and a clockwork-clown that cartwheeled in his hand.
He should have been the happiest boy in the world
and yet that lucky little boy was very sad
because he had no friends; no little boys or girls
to play with like the other children had.
But then one Christmas eve, all snowy and cold
from outside his window the boy heard a sound
it was a poor little girl with a begging bowl
dressed in rags and sitting on the hard frosty ground.
She was a little girl who had nothing at all
no mother; no father, no roof above her head
and she shook and she shivered in her old tattered shawl
that was all that little girl had for a bed.
So the little boy said to his butler and maid,
"Invite that poor little girl to live with me"
and the servants went out and his offer was made
which the little girl agreed to with the greatest glee.
So now that little boy has everything;
everything that a little boy could need
a friend with which he can play and laugh and sing
and he’s a very, very happy boy indeed.
