1.
A harvest mouse heard the rustle of a leaf
and it cried, "It's a fox! It's a fox! Good grief!"
and it ran to its hole that was under the ground
but a fox didn't make that rustling sound.
Chorus:
It was just the wind as it winds through the trees.
Nothing at all but the soft Summer breeze.
Little mouse, don't fear to come out and play.
Nothing is going to catch you today.
2.
So the Harvest mouse came out once again
but it heard a strange sort of rustling then.
"It's a cat or a fox or an owl, I'm sure",
said the mouse and ran back to its house once more.
Chorus:
But it was just the wind as it winds through the trees.
Nothing at all but the soft Summer breeze.
Little mouse, don't fear to come out and play.
Nothing is going to catch you today.
3.
So that harvest mouse, once more, came out
and it sniffed and it scratched and it looked all about
till it heard a rustle in the trees nearby
and it shrieked, "Its a cat! Its a cat! Oh my!".
Chorus:
But it was just the wind as it winds through the trees.
Nothing at all but the soft Summer breeze.
Little mouse, don't fear to come out and play.
Nothing is going to catch you today.
