The Snowman Who Wouldn't Melt
By well-wisher
- 2079 reads
Not once upon a time, but still,
there is a snowman known as Phil
who refuses to melt away,
even upon hot sunny days.
Some children built him years ago;
gave him a parsnip for a nose;
two coal lump eyes, an old cloth cap
and said, “Phil, you’re a handsome chap!”.
But, when spring thaw came, Phil felt
he really did not want to melt
so, when all other snow had gone,
the stubborn snowman soldiered on.
And, till this day, Phil’s still frozen,
enjoying the life he’s chosen,
through April, May, June and July,
under bright sun and clear blue sky.
All round about him, daisies grow
and swallows perch upon his nose,
he loves the buzzing bumblebee
and blossoms of the springtime trees.
But, now he’s friends with spring and summer,
he feels, perhaps, he should become a
part of them, turn back to water
for the flowers, Earth’s sons and daughters.
