The Spring Chick

First, a pair of twig like legs
then one wing and then another;
then two eyes peer from the egg
and see the face of a loving mother.

“Happy Birthday, baby boy”,
says the beaming mother bird.
Then the chick cheeps and chirps with joy
and she cries, “Look! My child’s first words”.
