Take the Step

It is fearful
The opening of a closed door
A locked room
Where all the secrets are kept
It is a heavy step
To be taken to lighten up
To let go
Of that which weighs us down
They speak of light
Of love
Of redemption
But who will stand beside you?
Hold your hand?
Cheer you on?
Do you feel it?
The soft caress of a loving kiss
On your cheek before you take the plunge
The soft stroking of your hair
As you brave the onslaught of those who do not care
A soft tickle under your nose
Of a feather lightly stoked
They are here
Waiting
Watching
Supporting
Loving
No dawn is too dark
No place too fearful
Angels step where you do
Carry you if need be
For they know not fear
No matter what the uninformed might say
For when the flesh is weak they are strong
When the heart falters theirs grows brighter
All it takes is a request
No Magic
No incense
No candles or bells
For pure love cannot be controlled
If it is to remain love
Like the caged bird
Though it sings
It can only speculate
About the wind beneath
The wild birds’ wings
The sun upon its feathers
The taste of nature’s fruits
The step must be taken
The pain must be felt
The block must be cleared
The path must be found
So others can follow
In your slipstream
An break the chains
Of a family expectation
