Mother Nature

You walked through a lush expanse, scattered with dogwoods
Taking a deep breath and inhaling the flowery fragrance
While running your hand across the rough bark of a tree
Listening to the melodious tune of the larks
The sun’s rays peeking out from behind the vast canopy of trees above you
But a fire burned, setting the sweet meadow ablaze
The acrid stench of fumes diffusing across the open air
And the ground left as a monotonous brown, dry and rocky
A titanium building was built on top of it
Smoke constantly seeping out from the top of the factory
Tens of workers trampling the crusty soil
Leaving flattened Gatorade bottles and Dorito bags strewn across the wasteland
One idea, one seed was planted in to the brittle ground
There sprouted one tree, then several others
The expanse soon became abundant with shrubbery
Flowery fragrances and the canopy of trees was soon restored
Revived in its former bliss
For the sweet song of the larks had returned
And the lush expanse it used to be is now more than merely a memory
