Chocolate!

I love chocolate
Big bars, small bars, Mars bars
I have a deeply held affection
For any kind of chocolate confection
It’s true, I do!

I love chocolate
Easter eggs, Cream eggs, even Galaxy Dream eggs
And a Cadbury’s flake is a thing of beauty
I’ve eaten so many…well… I feel it’s my duty
It’s true, I do!

I love chocolate
I love Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut and Galaxy Velvet
Oh, and no Christmas would be considered complete
Without eating my way through the biggest tin of Quality Street
It’s true, I do!

I love chocolate
But here’s something I don’t understand
Some people like to suck a boiled sweet
When they think they deserve a special treat
It’s incredible but true, they do!

How can anyone not love chocolate?
I’m partial to a honeycomb Crunchie or a Coconut Bounty
And what is it I eat to boost my self esteem?
Why, it’s none other than a Fry’s peppermint cream
It’s true, I do!

I am completely besotted with chocolate
But I’ve eaten so much of the delicious stuff
My doctor now insists I must introduce a degree of moderation
So, between chocolate and me there is to be a forced separation
It’s true, I have to!

But first, I’ll just finish my Mars bar and then my Crème Egg
Then try to decide, should I eat it now or save it for later?
What if they search me…I suppose I could try to bargain with a Polo?
But they’ll never take me alive if they try to relieve me of my last Rolo
But still I go in to the meeting my doctor insists will be symbolic
Though I hate the idea of standing up and saying
“My name is Moya and I’m a Chocoholic!” Although that part is true, so I do.

Hello Tina, almost as much as a Cream Egg! No surely not! Nothing measures up to a cream egg or for that matter a Bounty or a Crunchie... Thanks for reading my effort which I wrote some time ago and was thinking of putting it up then I saw Geoffrey's poem about chocolate and that nudged me into doing just that. Hope you had a good Christmas Moya

new Denzella Hello! Great poem. Especially the subject of chocolate. Mione was always,nip next to the shop quick? For Fry's Cream chocolate bar, when babe young, and mine was working! But gained weight? I've eaten gift of Thorntons great chocolate flaked, sponge cakes presse. umm! six in a box wonderful. first time. Some quality street, and break off bars from Cadbury's chocolate! feel bit ugh! now. La Creme'of La creme' eggs my favourite, bit hard eat now? Much better than polo. Used love to crack all you mention,can't now. Hope you enjoyed christmas too. cavalcaderl julie x

Hi Denzella, I've largely given up poetry now being mostly preoccupied with Jennifer Jane. I'm glad you were inspired by my version of the substance, all of my poetry was intended to raise at least a smile if not the belly laugh. We have something else in common as well as writing. I too suffer from a (very mild form of) Parkinsons. Incidentally nearly everything I've written was done a long time ago!

Hello Geoffrey, Thank you for reading my poem. So you too belong to that exclusive club The Movers and Shakers! Parkinson's is also not the only thing we have in common as most of my writing was done a long time ago too but on a typewriter and so none of my work got further than first draft stage. Ironically, Parkinson's means I now sleep very little so I go on my computer to while away the wee small hours. I like to write plays and they require a fair amount of commitment so I play about with poetry though I know I am no poet. I just try to make people smile or better still laugh out loud. Unforunately i'am intolerant to sugar now brings me out in a rash ..but it doesnt stop me from having a green and blacks 70% chocolate bar hidden in my bed room draw...Shhh don't tell anyone !!loved the poem thanks for sweet memory

This stands out as one of your better ones Moya, as always, funny, really good rhythm (might have stumbled just a tenny bit in the later stanzas when they got longer)Love it and in keeping with the theme of everybody else's comments ... nearly as much a an orange Aero.

Hi Moya. Great poem, perfect Sunday reading I must say. I love all of the "its true I do" lines. Very playful and lots of fun. You display lots of spirit and tongue in cheek defiance in the last stanza and I can just picture a child surounded by wrappers and covered in chocolate as you mention all your favourites...i'd forgotten about 'Fry's mint cream' by the way!
