River rushing,
water rises,
flood-weight pushing,
– power surprises,
moving cars and caravans;
tree comes down,
nestlings drown,
parents flown
away to fly a further day,
and build another nest,
their labour once again invest.
Meadows sunk below
river’s overflow
(enriching soil
for grazing future,
and post-flood nature);
but towns in turmoil,
murky mud
from the flood
left to spoil,
causing toil,
sorrow, heartache,
lives will shake,
worn, forlorn,
needing generous support
to struggle on,
kind succour sought
for many days to come.

Great poem Rhiannon,
you described the scene so well with the imagery
of your words.
Jenny.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
You used the rhythym of the poem to make the picture of the destruction and dismay even clearer.
